Thanks for your honest feedback and glad you enjoyed! We understand the price can feel high compared to some other low FODMAP seasonings out there. Many of those rely on bases like corn starch, maltodextrin, or “natural” flavors to keep costs down – they’re basically lab-created flavors sprayed onto a low cost carrier, rather than real ingredients. What sets us apart is our commitment to 100% plant-based, low FODMAP seasonings made only with real, whole ingredients – grown using organic or beyond-organic practices. We work closely with small farms to specially grow our ingredients, then handle everything from hand-trimming to custom drying to bottling with a lot of care. This process does make our costs higher, but it also means we can ensure quality and avoid potentially unhealthy fillers at every step. We truly hope you’ll consider us again in the future.

Why is this so ridiculously expensive?

David

Hi David - thank you for the question! If you take a look at the ingredients in other low FODMAP replacer products, "natural flavors", corn starch, maltodextrin, and the like are what they are made from. While we may not be for everyone, we don't believe in feeding those kinds of fillers to our customers. We believe products that are meant for gut health should be good for you and unfortunately not everything that is low FODMAP is actually good for your overall health. These powders are very involved to make and are not commodity ingredients that are available on the open market – we had to invent the supply chain to make them. First we work with a local, regenerative farm to grow and harvest these garlic chives. They are then immediately driven to our special plant where a team has to hand cut and clean each bundle. We have to bring in a big team to do this all in one day to retain optimal freshness. Then, in small batches, they get dehydrated overnight and then powdered down and bottled. It takes pounds of fresh inputs (think about how lightweight herbs are) to net out with one bottle. 5000 pounds in... 400 pounds of powder out in our last run. In short, it's a very involved laborious process involving farms, hand labor and specialty processing. Over time and as we scale, we'll continue to improve our efficiencies in order to lower our costs to our customers; in the meantime, we believe the use of quality ingredients, supporting local farms and paying everyone a fair wage along the way is essential to our brand – and for making the most flavorful seasonings!

Is this organic or pestide-free? That information is included on the the green onions powder but not the garlic powder.

Cassandra

Yes! The garlic chives are grown on a “beyond organic” farm in New Jersey (Lanis Farm if you’d like to check them out). In this case, not even organic fertilizers are used. And certainly no pesticides.

Hello, Is the garlic chive and garlic scape powder produced and processed in an allergen free facility? No gluten, no peanuts, no soy, ect? Thank you for the help! Blessings, Kimberly

Kimberly

Hi Kimberly -- Garlic Chives: The chives go right from the farm to a drying facility that is nut and wheat free. Garlic Scapes: This passes through a freeze drying facility that does handle wheat and nuts, but has a full cleaning protocol between runs (washing of all equipment and rooms between batches). We test both final products for gluten and are well under the 20 ppm limit the FDA sets for gluten free (we are at "<5.0 ppm" for garlic chive powder -- the test can't pick up any lower). Feel free to drop us an email if you'd like to see the lab reports. Garlic scape is sold out at the moment and we'll be running the new batch for a gluten reading shortly.

What is the sodium content?

P.e

Hi -- sodium content is 0. There is no salt in this, or any fillers for that matter. Just 100% dried garlic chives.

Can this be used if you are allergic to garlic? Or is it directly derived from garlic??

Natalie K

Hi Natalie. Great question. If you are allergic to the garlic plant, this is separate and not derived at all from it. The garlic plant is "allium sativum" and is usually grown from bulbs while garlic chives are a separate plant that is grown from seed ("Allium tuberosum"). It's more similar to the chive family ("allium schoenoprasum") and is basically an herb. I know at least one other customer acquired this due to an allergy to the garlic plant so hopefully it works for you as well. Please note, our "garlic scape powder" comes from part of the garlic plant, and while low FODMAP, should not be used if you have an underlying allergy to the plant.
