I bought this scratch map of Australia for my parents to mark their well-earned retirement travels. You know, the grand lap of the country, the outback adventures, the coastal caravanning dreams. But it turns out retirement travel looks a lot like... going back to the same caravan park in New South Wales every year. The map is gorgeous—shiny, detailed, and full of promise. But instead of a colourful patchwork of scratched-off regions, it’s just one very well-worn patch of NSW. At this point, they’ve scratched that one spot so many times it’s less “New South Wales” and more “Used South Wales”. They joke that they’ll need a magnifying glass to find a new town to visit—or maybe just scratch a little further down the road and pretend it’s somewhere new. Meanwhile, the rest of Australia remains as shiny and untouched as the fancy wine glasses they got for their wedding. Still, 10/10 for laughs and solid map quality. Great gift if your folks want to appear adventurous without actually having to leave the comfort zone of their favourite beachside bakery. Highly recommend—especially if your parents travel in loops, not lines.
