I think these rods are the best way to get into fishable bamboo at an affordable price. I’ve tried vintage rods and even after restoration, there are still issues, mainly the ferrules. They’re old, the glue is old and cracks, the bamboo strips come apart. These Headwater rods are new and withstand the flexing. The workmanship is really well done. I presently own three Headwater Bamboo rods and will probably buy again; two are brand new from Headwaters and one is an older used model I purchased via EBay for an insane low price! I’m slowly replacing my graphite rods with bamboo; I love the slower action. Good Bamboo rods Almost teach you how to get into their fluid casting motion, very relaxing and the Headwater rods are no exception. I’m looking forward to new models to cover most fishing situations. Prior to bamboo, I owned 38 graphite rods, now done to 30 as I replace them with bamboo. I’m after a nice stream 3wt now which will replace my over indulged stream rod collection of graphite. I fish all spectrums and will need to try a 7 or 8 weight for my pike, salmon, steelhead and Saltwater craze. At 62 I’m done with deep sea fly fishing so the 8 weight should be my heaviest. I believe I saw a 7 wt on the Headwaters site so I might be reviewing that one shortly. My son lives in Nome Alaska and we fish for World Class Grayling, Dollies, Arctic Char and all the Salmon species except Kings; no King runs in his area. The 7 weight would do nicely along with my Headwaters Henry’s Fork 7’9” 5 weight for a world record Grayling. COVID is the only thing holding me back for that trip, no crowds at all in Nome.
