Brian Q.from K&M Sheet Metal - Terrible
In September 2017, I placed an order with Bruce from K&M and he was okay to deal with. The order was for $13,500.00 and the entire order was for copper gutters, leaders, downspouts, etc. The experience with K&M was a nightmare. The order was supposed to be shipped 2 weeks after full payment was made to K&M and the shipping was supposed to be $635.00 to New York from North Carolina. I received a call from the shipping company 3 weeks after it was shipped when I was promised that I would have the order within one week. I was told by Bruce from K&M that the order would include the forklift service but when I received a phone call from the shipping company, I was told that wasn't the case and that I would have to rent my own forklift and an operator to take 2800 lbs of material off of the truck. I ended up paying $695.00 for shipping directly to K&M for crappy service and I ended up spending $750.00 for renting a forklift from a local vendor near my area but the nightmare doesn't end here. The shipment was taken off by the forklift and my contractor since the driver didn't want to help. Since the material was approximately 2800 lbs and I needed time to open up the crate and check all the material to see whether anything came to us damaged, I was told by the shipping company driver that he didn't have the time to wait around. The driver left and as soon as we open up the order, I found 8 pieces each about 10 feet long with dings and dents all over them which means that they were either sent to me damaged or they were not packed properly and were damaged in transit. I called the shipping company and they didn't want anything to do with it. I called Bruce from K&M and he advised me to email him the pictures of the damaged gutters. I immediately took pictures and emailed it to him. I didn't hear back from Bruce for about 3-4 days and I ended up calling again because I needed to have all the materials for my gutter guy to start installing gutters since I wanted the gutter installer to come once and not have rt come back and forth. Bruce stated that he had to speak with the owner and then he would get back to me. After emailing Bruce few days later, he stated that the owner wanted to replace the damaged gutters but he wanted me to pay for shipping and I told Bruce that absolutely no way, I was going to pay for shipping again since their product came damaged to me. He said that he will speak with the owner one more time. He finally got back to me after I kept calling and leaving messages and I was told that the owner wanted to offer only $877.77 because he felt that was fair. I explained to Bruce that the damaged product came up to $1300.00 and that I should be reimbursed the full $1300.00 or the product should be sent to me free of charge and shipping should be paid by the company and they are willing to pick up the damaged product but Bruce stated that the owner wouldn't accept that. What happened to customer service? I paid over $13,000.00 for the entire order and all I got was the run around. Since I had no choice and I wouldn't be reimbursed $1300.00 + for the damaged product, I accepted the $877.77. 7 months later, I tried calling K&M and no one would answer the phone. I called because I needed some additional pieces even though I had the worst customer service experience and finally Sales Manager, Eric answered the phone stating that the owner didn't want to deal with me. This is not right and I will be calling American Express to charge back the entire order as well as taking this matter up to my attorney. Worst company. I wouldn't recommend to anyone. Worst customer service and no business ethics.
FSEvery once and awhile, as a business, you run into one of those customers that makes the entire process difficult and unfortunately, Farooq Sultan is one of those customers. Most business owners know exactly what I am talking about. From the very beginning of the ordering process, Mr. Sultan showed his true colors as a difficult/deceitful customer. After dealing with Mr. Sultan once, we were certain as a small business it was not beneficial for either party to continue doing business together. The lengthy complaint by Mr. Sultan is full of twisted truths and outright fabrications, which is precisely why we chose to discontinue any future business relationship with him. While not perfect, at K&M Sheet Metal we strive to provide the best customer service and products available within our industry. If you follow the timeline below it is my belief that we did just that. Kimberly Tenoever Owner/K&M Sheet Metal LLC • The material was originally ordered on 7/24/17. • The material deposit from Mr. Sultan was delayed and made on 9/5/17. • On 9/5/17 K&M sent an email to Mr. Sultan specifically stating that he will need to provide a forklift to unload the 20’ long and approx. 3,000# crate. K&M even suggested that we could get a better shipping price of $585.00 if the crate was delivered direct to a shipping terminal for Mr. Sultan or a gutter installer to pick up. Mr. Sultan chose to have the gutters delivered to a residence in Staten Island, NY which carries added charges. We were able to pull some strings for Mr. Sultan and get the delivery price down approx. $300 from the original quote. • K&M then fabricated the material for the order and scheduled shipment for 9/13/17 but were waiting for final payment so shipment had to be held. • Due to Mr. Sultan’s delayed payment, the completed order sat on our floor for a month waiting for final payment before shipping. • Final payment was made on 10/9/17 and the order was readied for shipment. • Material was picked up from our facility on 10/13/17. • Trucking company contacted Mr. Sultan and attempted deliveries on 10/16, 10/17, 10/19...finally on 10/23 Mr. Sultan was there to accept delivery. Mr. Sultan signed off on a crate that was ‘accepted and received clean and in full’. • 25 Days later on 11/16, after the shipment was signed for by the Mr. Sultan on 10/23, Mr. Sultan contacted us and stated that two pieces of gutter had a very slight ding in the gutter. Each of the two gutters appear to have a couple of scrapes or dings isolated to approx. 5” of the gutter. It appears the gutters were laid on some gravel based on the marks. • 5 Days later on 11/21 the Mr. Sultan now claimed to have 8 pieces of damaged gutter. Mr. Sultan sent pictures of 7 pieces of gutter. From these pictures we were not able to discern any damage whatsoever. • In a final effort to satisfy Mr. Sultan we offered to provide “FREE of charge”...the gutter which he claimed to be damaged minus the scrap value of the copper. We refunded the entire amount of the gutter minus the scrap value even though the damage claim was made 25 days after receipt. • It was very clear that the shipment needed to be checked upon delivery, but we still stood by our customer and paid Mr. Sultan out of our pockets. In addition, we were not able to make a damage claim with the trucking company due to it being past the trucking companies claims deadline. • Last but not least, after much effort...we are left with an unfavorable review...SAD
