I had been looking for a uke with a soft mellow sound to play chord/melody music rather than just chord accompaniments, when I was lucky enough to stumble across somebody on YouTube playing a DUKE10. It seemed to have just the sound I was looking for, and it was a banjo uke, rather than a standard ukulele! Perfect! Elated, I went to the DUKE10 website! Deflated, I found they were sold out! However, there was a link to express interest should production restart. I clicked on it. The very next day Jamie Houston, the owner of the DUKE10 business contacted me from New Zealand and said that - if I was interested - he had one last one in the UK, it was in Cornwall, and it could be mine if I wanted! Well, that was it. I live in Somerset, not far from Cornwall, and I agreed to buy it. I had loved the look and sound of it when I had seen it online, but I was not prepared to discover just how much better it was when it arrived. I like the sound, the colour, and the shape of the headstock; the tone is lovely, the tuning pegs are easy to adjust (unlike my Monarch), (and I really like the traditional set of tuning pegs. So many modern ukes have the pegs poking out the side of the headstock, spoiling the line.) I like the way the strings are anchored inside the pot, feeding through to the tailpiece, there being no sharp edges to damage them, a thoughtful touch... I could go on and on, I like everything about it. In summary: it is impressive, lightweight, well-balanced, attractive and quirky (I mean that in a very nice way!), and I just love the gig bag too, which continues the same quirky vein. With good build quality and attention to detail, this is a fine instrument, in both appearance and sound, and one which deserves to be admired wherever it is played. In addition, I would add that Jamie Houston's commitment to customer service is second to none. He is always willing to answer any questions and queries which may arise, and his passion for the project is self evident. Thank you Jamie for your enthusiasm and dedication, I wish you every success when production restarts. William Hallworth Weston-super-Mare, UK.

Jamie Houstonfrom Duke Banjo Ukuleles - Great fun
Great support from Jamie in the purchase. He was happy to provide information as I requested it. Nothing was too much trouble. Setup was easy & it has been fun getting the best position for playing this open backed banjolele. I’m playing it off one shoulder strap like a mandolin to keep the back open & the harder you play it the better it sounds in my opinion. The strings fitted are great, again imo.

Jamie Houstonfrom Duke Banjo Ukuleles - Worth waiting for
This is a quality instrument and I am very pleased with it. The tone is bright and it was easy to tune. I'm a beginner, it sounds good a works well. The only issues I had are: The bridge was easy to set up as per instructions but the strings have occasionally dislodged from the fret channels as I'm practicing, any advice available on this? It got stuck in the UK postal system and I had to pay an unexpected customs charge to get it delivered. Neither of these small gripes would stop me from buying again or recommending to others.

Thanks for your feedback, John. I will contact you about the strings dislodging - it is an easy fix. Sorry about the Customs charges :-( Unfortunately there is no way for me to know if a shipment will get stopped or not, but I do not add VAT to the price upfront for this reason. Glad you love your banjolele :-)
Jamie Houstonfrom Duke Banjo Ukuleles - Good
I am enjoying the Duke. It is light and easy to play. Problem is, I have a long way to go before I can make it talk like Fred Sokolow!

Jamie Houstonfrom Duke Banjo Ukuleles - An exceptional product.
This is an exceptional instrument. The sound is all that I hoped and the workmanship is top notch. The price was reasonable considering the quality. I own several ukuleles and guitars and I am pleased to add this to my collection. I look forward to learning the claw hammer pick.

A very good and beautiful instrument, i don’t regret my purchase and I feel very lucky for getting one of the last Duke 10 for now. I’m hoping that they will be more of them in the future.

Jamie Houstonfrom Duke Banjo Ukuleles - Great choice for me. Not disappointed buying sight unseen.
I really like it. I do have to adjust how I finger the chords (small hands), because the neck is thicker than my tenor uke. But have adjusted to the other differences quickly. I did attach shoulder strap to upper neck like my uke. Weight is fine. I like the sound. Glad I got it. I play with Tiki Dave's live Facebook uke playalongs on Fridays from Hawaii and switch back and forth using my two instruments depending on the song. Just need more practice on strums that show off the banjo sound. Thanks! I looked at all the banjoleles and made best choice for me. I especially love the metal guard for my arm.
