- 1 photo100 years between my banjo-ukuleles, and it keeps all of the good stuff
I started learning ukulele a few years ago, and really enjoyed it. My parents brought me a Sandstrom banjo-ukulele that belonged to my Grandad during the 1920’s/1930’s in San Francisco. While it’s still playable, I found that the friction pegs, and old calfskin made it temperamental (you cant blame it for a 100 year old instrument) and that made it hard to really enjoy, even though I loved the sound. I’ve been thinking about a Duke 10 for a while, and recently pulled the trigger after some great conversations with Jamie (how cool is it to be able to e-mail the owner of a company directly...and he has a great name?). I think the Duke 10’s sound captures the “heart” of my grandad’s banjo-Ike, but even better. The 10” head size gives it more presence and the fret spacing fits my hand much better, not to mention the great design of the geared tuning pegs. While I’ll never get rid of my grandad’s banjo-uke, I think the Duke 10 is just what I wanted. Now they can be banjo-ukulele mates!
Jamie T.Verified buyerJamie, mate! What an awesome story. Loved learning about your Grandad's banjouke, and just love the photo of the two banjo ukuleles together! Thanks for putting your trust in a DUKE10, and I'm thrilled it is just what you expected.
Jamie Houstonfrom Duke Banjo Ukuleles - Great
Although delivery to France took a little longer than wished, that was a not unexpected consequence of CV-19. The box was well and securly packaged and when I opened it everything was perfect. Within minutes I had the banjolele set up and tuned. I'm a fairly average player but now looking to build a repertoire of suitable tunes. Best wishes to all at DUKE. Conor
Conor W.Verified buyerThanks for the 5 stars Conor! Glad it is 'perfect' for you.
Jamie Houstonfrom Duke Banjo Ukuleles - Fab-u-lous
Beautiful. Easy to set up (when I found the bridge ;-) ). Added bonus as I didn’t realise it had a pickup! Lovely to play and not too loud like other banjuleles. The details such as the strap. I wouldn’t have had a clue, and the arm shield 10/10!
Angela B.Verified buyerSo thrilled you love it Angela, and glad you found all the 'bonuses'! Thanks for the great review.

Jamie Houstonfrom Duke Banjo Ukuleles - DUKE10 Is My Favourite Instrument
I received my Duke 10 in early Dec. 2019 and have been playing it regularly since. It has become my favourite instrument. I play regularly at home and in a weekly jam session. I have received numerous compliments on the Duke, from other participants in the jam. They appreciate both the sound and appearance. Several of them also played it when I shared it with them. 1 fellow who owns a different banjolele, felt that the sound of the Duke was superior to his. I really enjoy playing the Duke. While the Duke feels light to hold it also feels very solid. While researching banjoleles, I tried various makes and models. I found that those with the smaller head did not sound as good and from a design standpoint the head appeared to be out of proportion to the size of the instrument. I also tried the Derring Tenor, which sounded good but again from a design standpoint the drum appeared to be too large and off balance. I think the Duke found the perfect balance in terms of both sound and design.
Lyle S.I am humbled by your wonderful review, Lyle, and really appreciate you taking the time to send it through.
Jamie Houstonfrom Duke Banjo Ukuleles - Love it. I have named her Sugar Babe because of the sweet sound.
Oh what a beauty! Arrived in a well wrapped package. Easy and quick set up. Great sound. The only drawback for me was that the supplied strap was too short. Can you get it made about half as long again Jamie? (Need to make allowance for a well padded, buxom, lady.) This is just an observation. In summary, a great instrument at a great price. Thanks Jamie.
Sharon R.Verified buyerHaha! That's a good point Sharon, thanks for the feedback about the strap. I am thrilled that you not only love your DUKE10 but that you have named her as well! Awesome. Thanks for the 5 Stars!
Jamie Houstonfrom Duke Banjo Ukuleles The bano uke was well made, came on time, and Jamie, the owner of the company was wonderful. He saw that I had failed to claim a discount to which he was entitled. Instead of keeping the money from my mistake, on his initiative he returned it to me. I didn't even know I had it coming. This type of highly ethical behavior should be acknowledged and praised./
Charles A.Verified buyerCharles, your kind words are very much appreciated, and I am so happy that you like your DUKE10. Thank you for the 5 Star Review!
